Biography

Marius Serban was born into a Christian home at the base of the Carpathian Mountains, in the beautiful Prahova valley region of Romania.

Since he was the first born to Peter and Angela, they loved him so much they took him with them everywhere they went, including choir rehearsals. At the age of only two, little Marius began to love choral music and enjoyed playing as a choir conductor during the week.

As he grew older he was member of the children’s choir, then Youth choir and finally church choir. That’s where he met and became friend with Gabriel who urged him to attend the School of Art for vocal training. “I didn’t know I have a gift until I met my vocal teacher at the School of Art” Marius said. She instilled in Marius so much hope, and vocally instructed him, so that at the end of his first year at the School of Art, he came short of one place to win the nationally known competition “The Song of Romania”.

Taking the second and third place in 1987 and 1989 on the finals at this competition made Marius not only aware that he’s got a God’s given gift, but made him also a witness for God, since he refused to take part of any singing activities that were placed on the Sabbath.

Coming to America through a series of sad circumstances made it even more difficult to his music career. “I was trained and earned my diploma in vocal performance, in operatic music. To really find songs that matched my voice and my style of music has been my greatest challenge” says Marius.

Marius performed as tenor soloist in the Messiah Christmas Concert with the Southern Adventist University United Choirs under the direction of Dr. Marvin Robertson. He opened the first Christmas Concert at the newly built Howard Performing Arts Center at Andrews University under the direction of Steven Zork. He also performed with non-church choirs such as, the Choir of Syndicates, Calhoun Community Choir, Knoxville Choral Society.

After graduating from SAU with a BA in Theology he pastored in Knoxville for two years where he formed and conducted the Knoxville Choir. Later he went on to graduate from the Seventh-Day Adventist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree and lead out the ministry of the Athens SDA Church for one and a half years.

He felt the call to use his vocal talent and sharing his life story in vesper’s concerts and/or worship services in churches across our continent. If you would like to hear his testimony and his music contact Janet Kuebler who is his personal agent.
